Potassium nitrate contributes to the pain of tooth sensitivity and bared neck in hot and cold, sweet and sour, in contact with the brush or a dental tool. 

It has a low abrasion index (RDA 25), slightly alkaline pH 8,6 for gentle cleaning of teeth and exposed tooth necks.
