Men's fertility: How is affected by the use of mobile?

Men who use beyond a certain threshold the mobile phone affect their fertility, according to new research results, published in the journal Reproductive BioMedicine Online.

The study included 106 men who were evaluated in assisted reproduction unit in 2011-2012 and met a series of requirements associated with mobile phone use habits and sperm quality, according to parameters set by WHO in 2010.

Participants completed questionnaires that included demographic information for conditions and detailed questions about the phone use.

After collecting the data, the researchers examined the relationship between all independent factors and effects on the quality of sperm. The results were published in the research on "Habits of mobile phone use and sperm quality - deserves attention?".

As indicated by the results of the study, regular talks on the mobile phone for more than an hour a day and to speak one when charging the mobile, doubling the possibility of reducing the concentration of spermatozoa from 33.3% to 66.7%.

Research also shows that sperm concentrations decrease in abnormal levels in men who hold the phone in less than 50.8 cm from groin. Abnormal concentration was seen in approximately 47% of people hold the phone a short distance compared with about 11% in the total male population.

The findings support the hypothesis relationship between mobile phone use and male infertility caused by electromagnetic radiation from mobile.

The Dr. Ariel Zilberlicht, the Carmel Medical Center and Technion Faculty of Medicine, Haifa, said that after the findings recommended reducing phones term, non-transfer of the mobile near the groin, not sleeping someone next to him or when charged and use hands-free.

It states, however, that require larger studies to confirm these findings.
