Co-enzyme Q-10 or CoQ10 (2,3-dimethoxy, 5-methyl, 6-polyisoprene para-benzoquinone) or ubiquinone 50 is a lipophilic, redox active molecule found in all cell membranes. It consists of a quinone ring, forming the head, and a hydrophobic tail, which contains 10 isoprenal units, as the name itself says.
Ubiquinone: It is present in all tissues, but the highest concentrations found in the heart, brain, kidneys and liver.
COQ-10 FUNCTIONS
Co-enzyme Q-10 (CoQ-10) is a vital component of cellular energy metabolism. It is placed in the electron transport chain of the mitochondria to facilitate the production of ATP (ATP adenosine triphosphate).
CoQ-10: Inhibits MPTP and induced neuronal cell damage
