UΤΙ in summer (precautionary ways)

    UTI is the most common infection widespread regardless the sex. Is summer the ally of urinary tract infection for both sexes? Or do we adopt behaviors due to the carelessness of our summer vacation? Urinary tract infections are the second most common infection in humans after respiratory infections.

   According to urologists are no specific rules to be observed throughout the year, but much less in the summer. The main objective is to prevent and avoid the urinary tract infection in humans.
Ways to prevent a UTI:

  • The most simple and effective way to prevent a UTI is consumption plenty of fluids during the 24 hours, it is determined depending on the body type and eating habits. Typically the alcohol and spicy foods requires more fluid intake. The minimum fluid consumption should be at least 3 liters of water per day.

  • As a result of regular fluid intake is urinating. It should avoid inhibiting urination. Many times in the summer especially women because they are under unwanted circumstances can not urinate whenever necessary. Therefore frequent urination generated from frequent fluid consumption should be the second basic rule of UTI prevention.

  • Good hand washing after visiting the toilet.

  • Take care of hygiene of this area, men and women. Particular importance given by women due to the anatomy of the area and how the microbe invade . Moreover, the daily change of underwear is nessecary, using only cotton material as well.

  • You use only cotton towels for wiping. You use them once. Avoid conctact of used towel with the sensitive area.

  • Avoid sitting for long time on the sand.

  • Change your damp swimsuit with a dry one.

  • Precautions during the entire sexual contact and urination immediately after having sex (particularly women)

  • Avoid swimming in dirty seas and pools

  • Eating foods that have beneficial properties. Typical examples of these super foods we can find them either as raw material or as supplements to the nearest pharmacy. Mostly nutritional supplements are better absorbed by human body and have concentrated the active substance which fortifies the body by a urinary tract infection. The cranberry and blueberry containing antioxidant (epicatechin) which prevents the adhesion of bacteria to the walls of the urethra. Probiotics, vitamin C and pineapple help prevent a UTI.

 

   These are all measures to prevent a UTI, especially during the summer months. However, if an existing urinary tract infection should consult a urologist to treat, usually with the use of antibiotics. The intake of food supplements and foods that help prevent a urinary tract infection are not a way to fight an existing urinary tract infection.
