In hot Nigritas created a new unit that operates the geothermal field in the region to produce spirulina. Spirulina, an alga long as half a millimeter, is the most nutritious substance on earth, with a protein content as high as 63% and is used as a dietary supplement mainly, but also by the cosmetics industry.

Algae Aquaculture SA, the company that produces and sells spirulina, was recently accredited by the Austrian certification body TUV - CERT, in the standard ISO 9002.
